Nutrabaits 90 mesh Rennet Casein

This is the rennet casein they use in the Hi-Nu-Val Mix. It is top quality food grade and has a guaranteed protein content of over 95%. Air dried on a fluidised base, it has a neutral pH and, like most rennet caseins, it still contains many of the vitamins and minerals present in milk. Ideal for buoyant or semi-buoyant baits, it provides the bait with a very soft centre. You can use anything up to 9oz in a 16oz/500g mix, although there is, in their opinion, a big argument for combining both rennet and acid casein in the same bait mix. Nutrabaits 100 mesh Acid Casein

Superb quality NZ spray dried food grade casein, again with a protein content in excess of 90%. There is a limit to how much of this finer casein you can add to a mix and still achieve a hard bait, so they suggest a maximum of 5oz in a 16oz/500g mix. Nutrabaits Sodium Caseinate

96% protein and another very popular top quality HNV ingredient. Sodium caseinate is the soluble version of acid casein as well as being considerably lighter. Ideal for adding to semi-buoyant or slow sinking baits. Nutrabaits recommend no more than 3oz in a 16oz/500g mix. More than 3oz might result in the mix being slightly sticky to roll. Nutrabaits 30 mesh Acid Casein

Nutrabaits have made available two types of acid casein, this version being the coarser 30 mesh. Human food grade with a very high protein content - 95%. This casein has a pH around 4.6 and makes an ideal additive for the coarser type of base mix, such as fishmeals. If you want an HNV bait that is hard all the way through, this is the casein you need. Nutrabaits Calcium Caseinate

Calcium caseinate is the soluble version of lactic casein, another French food grade product and one that is processed by extrusion and vacuum drying. Nutrabaits Nutragel

An egg replacer that enables production of rock hard baits without using eggs. Just add Nutragel at 1-2oz per 16oz/500g of your normal mix and sufficient water to achieve the normal consistency of paste for rolling. Fieldtesters found the only difference in the finished baits was that they tended to harden right the way through, ideal for many peoples' requirements. Nutragel is a completely natural whey protein - modified during drying to increase its gelling capacities: it has a protein content of 75% and is used as a gelling agent in the food industry. Eggs contain very effective emulsifying properties, so if you are using a no egg mix with an essential oil, they suggest the addition of their emulsifier. Click here for more product information

Nutrabaits Nutrapro

An 80% protein ingredient made up of 48.7% lactoglobulin, 18.8% lactalbumin and whey protein. When Bipro vanished from the market they spent a lot of time hunting around for an alternative and this is what they came up with. Nutrapro is actually a very high quality substitute for standard lactalbumin and is a very useful ingredient for any type of bait, particularly HNVs. It binds, hardens a bait slightly and makes for easy rolling, in addition to providing an ideal amino acid profile. Nutrabaits suggest a maximum of 2-3oz per 16oz/500g of bait. Nutrabaits Nutralac

This is the ingredient that adds both the fat content and the lovely creamy taste and smell to their Hi-Nu-Val mix. It is a slightly sweet, high fat milk supplement powder, used for weaning lambs, and makes an ideal ingredient for any type of bait. Nutralac cannot really be classed as a high protein ingredient but nevertheless it is very popular. Nutrabaits Yellow Semolina

No fancy trade names here, it's just good old Yellow Semolina. Still widely used by many anglers around the country in lower protein baits and birdfood mixes. Nutrabaits Egg Albumin

Top quality food grade, not the downgraded 'animal feed only' version used by some bait dealers. Adds to the nutritional value of the bait and its hardness. This really is an incredible ingredient which, added at the rate of 1-2oz per 16oz/500g, will substantially harden the skin of almost any type of boiled bait. For example, standard Ener-vite is not intended to produce rock hard baits but add 2oz of Egg Albumin and they will go 100 yards plus from a throwing stick, without breaking up. A heavy fishmeal and one that has been used in many fishmeal mixes over the years, although they don't believe it's in the same league as Capelin or Sardine/Anchovy Meal.
