With different raw materials coming from many different areas of the world, we are constantly reviewing our range to ensure we have new ingredients that will allow anglers and bait companies to develop new, better baits at reasonable costs.

In recent times one of the most commonly asked questions is: What can I use as a fishmeal replacement? Once again, CC Moore & Co Ltd have carried out detailed research on suitable protein sources that can be used as a bulk ingredient in high quality base mixes.

Blood Powder

!

Recent animal food industry scares have made it difficult to source mammalian meat products, but we can now offer you this highly concentrated blood/haemoglobin powder, which has been screened and purified. With high nutritional qualities and an excellent crude protein value it makes a superb bait ingredient, ideal for binding and hardening whilst giving a dark red/brown finish to baits (great for darkening fish meal baits). Carp find this ingredient very attractive, as do Chub, Catfish and Bream. 

Can be included in base mixes at up to 3 oz/lb.

Blue Cheese Powder

Used by many successful anglers over a number of years, this Danish extra mature blue cheese powder adds a strong savoury taste and aroma to baits, which fish seem to detect. Baits containing this additive at 10% inclusion have achieved markedly increased catch rates when compared to baits containing none.

As well as a distinctive stilton-type aroma this powder adds a complex salt profile that has proven to be an effective fish attractor in even the coldest conditions.

Can be included in base mixes at up to 2 oz/lb.

Acid Casien 90 Mesh

This spray-dried, food-grade casein is of superior quality to all others we sampled. Being of 90mesh grade, it will enable finished boilies to maintain a semi-soft, moist centre when incorporated into a base mix. This casein has a protein content in excess of 90% and is ideal for use in H.N.V. baits where a high protein content and quality is sought. 

Can be included in base mixes at up to 6-7oz per lb.

Rennet Casein 90 Mesh

As with our Acid Casein, this Rennet Casein is of the highest quality available. It has a protein content in excess of 95% and is excellent for use within buoyant or semi-buoyant baits. Rennet is air-dried on a fluidised base and is recommended for use in conjunction with Acid Casein as the combination delivers a more complete profile of amino acids to base mixes. Being of 90mesh grade, it will enable finished boilies to maintain a semi-soft, moist centre when incorporated into a base mix.

Calcium Caseinate

Calcium Caseinate is soluble lactic casein. This high quality, human food grade milk protein has a crude protein content in excess of 96% and is another very popular ingredient for base mix inclusion where a high nutritional value bait is required.

Inclusion levels require careful consideration as Calcium Caseinate is not only soluble but is also very light. Including 4oz per lb may be suitable if there is little other soluble ingredient in the mix and a reasonable amount of dense ingredient. If this is not the case, lower levels should be considered.

Sodium Caseinate

Sodium Caseinate is another milk-derived protein, produced when sodium is used to extract the protein content from milk. As with Calcium Caseinate this ingredient has a protein content of 96% + and binds very well, but is even lighter, making it ideal for use with other ingredients when making buoyant or semi-buoyant baits. Due to its stickiness, the suitable inclusion level is dependant on other ingredients used in the mix. But beware, if included at more than 10% there is a risk that finished baits may float.

Egg Albumen

!

Egg albumen (egg white powder) is essential for baits that require a skinned, firm finish. Although other bait hardeners are available, egg albumen does not compromise the digestibility and nutritional quality of baits, it actually enhances it with a protein content in excess of 78%.

Can be included in base mixes at up to 4oz per lb.

Egg Albumen may be used in conjunction with Whey Gel to produce a base mix that requires no liquid egg. This enables you to add either water or other non-oil based attractors to your base mix to produce a far more soluble finished bait. Use Egg Albumen and Whey Gel at an inclusion level of 5% each to eliminate the requirement for liquid egg.

Fishmeal Pre-Digested

After using different types of pre-digested fishmeal, we believe this product to be the best version available. Produced from whole fish, this fine, floury, aromatic meal is processed under a very strict process that involves spray drying, flash pasteurisation and natural enzymatic hydrolysis. This process results in a highly attractive, nutritionally valuable meal that has a pepsin protein digestibility in excess of 97% and a water solubility of 75%+.

Fishmeal Standard

This very popular, home produced white fishmeal has a strong smell and is the most commonly used fishmeal in bait production, representing genuine value for money as a bulk bait item that fish find very attractive. With an excellent amino acid profile and 66% crude protein content it has very few equals within the vast range of raw materials and ingredients used in modern day bait production.

Lactalbumen

!

Lactalbumen is a milk protein of the very highest quality, having a protein content in excess of 88%. It consists of two main protein forms - lactalbumin and lacto globulins. Where high nutritional value baits are sought, Lactalbumen is an ideal ingredient that can be included with, or instead of, other milk proteins such as caseins, whey protein etc.

Because of its superior protein quality compared to other milk proteins, Lactalbumen supplies greater amounts of the main essential amino acids  required by carp.

Maize Flour

!

Maize Meal is a popular bulk ingredient produced by fine grinding maize. As mentioned under 'Maize Meal', carp are attracted to maize products irrespective of their format. As an inexpensive ingredient, Maize Flour is also popular for 'bulking out' baits and has very little taste and virtually no smell. Many anglers will recognise it as the fine yellow flour that is commonly used by tackle shops as a 'dusting' material for maggots.

Maize Meal

Another popular bulk ingredient, Maize Meal is produced by grinding maize less finely than for Maize Flour. Carp seem to love all maize products, and Maize Meal is certainly no exception. As an inexpensive ingredient, it is popular for 'bulking out' baits where long term bait application and digestibility is not of paramount importance. It has very little taste, no smell and is a white and yellow-flecked meal, very commonly used for method mix and ground bait inclusion.

Meggablend

!

This dry bird food blend of seeds and egg product is part of the incredibly popular and successful CC Moore range of 'Meggablend' products. It is ideal for use as a base mix ingredient, providing a highly nutritious combination of sugars, oils, crushed seeds, vegetable and egg protein, as well as a superb texture in finished baits that promotes excellent leakage in water. Meggablend also has a valuable binding property to help firm baits.

Can be included in base mixes up to 6oz per lb.

Meggablend Red

!

As with the other two products in the 'Meggablend' range, (Meggablend and Meggablend Sweet), Meggablend Red has become very popular with many anglers and bait companies. Consisting of crushed seeds, biscuit meals, egg foods and the acclaimed fish attractor Carophyll Red, Meggablend Red adds a great deal to baits, including texture, binding properties, a beautifully subtle-sweet taste, oils, sugars, leakage properties and of course, red flecks to pale baits. As soon as anglers see Meggablend Red, it often becomes an instant choice of ingredient for inclusion in their bait.

Meggablend Sweet

As the final product in the 'Meggablend' range, Meggablend Sweet contains the same crushed seeds, oils, natural sugars, vitamins, minerals, and vegetable and egg proteins as Meggablend. However, as a further development of the successful Meggablend, Meggablend Sweet also contains honey, giving it added natural attraction through a beautifully enhanced, sweet aroma and taste. This increases the finished taste and appeal of products whilst also improving the binding, leakage, visual appearance and nutritional properties of baits that contain it.

Robin Red

!

Well what can you say about Robin Red that hasn't been said lots of times before? We can't tell you a great deal about the make up of this ingredient, as it isn't ours! This product is sourced from Haiths and is the original Robin Red that has helped anglers catch so many fish down the years. Made from peppers, oils, sugars and crushed seeds, it has a deep, 'beetroot red' colour that traces through as a red or brown tinge in finished baits. The strength of colour in finished boilies greatly depends on other ingredients included in the base mix, but we recommend a minimum inclusion of 10%.

Semolina

!

Semolina is still one of the most widely used bait ingredients in modern day carp bait production. It is inexpensive, attractive to fish, and more importantly brings a gently firming structure to bait that eases the rolling process. As a non-soluble ingredient, it can also be used to counteract stickiness in mixes consisting of high levels of soluble materials.

Soya Flour

!

This Soya Flour is fine-ground, enzyme inactive, full-fat soya bean meal. High in oils and fats with a protein content of around 45%, Soya Flour is a very popular, all round ingredient that contributes many benefits to mixes. It is an effective binder, has an attractive malt aroma, adds a smoothness that eases rolling, is reasonably inexpensive and also maintains moisture content in baits.

Wheat Gluten

!

Wheat Gluten is a high protein product derived from wheat. With a protein content of around 75%, wheat gluten has become very undervalued in the past few years, being considered as a poor quality product with a limiting digestibility value. In fact, it is a very cost effective product that adds a slightly rubbery skin, flexible firmness and valuable nutrients to baits.

Whey Gel

Whey Gel is a modified whey protein used in the human food industry to replace eggs in food items where strong gelling properties are required. With ever-increasing numbers of anglers experiencing crayfish problems, this ingredient has proven to be invaluable at home and abroad. With an inclusion level of 1-2oz per lb, baits can be boiled for reduced times (down to 60 seconds), maintaining more of their nutritional value whilst producing very hard baits that are cooked right through to the centre.

Whey Gel may be used in conjunction with Egg Albumen to produce a base mix that requires no liquid egg. This enables you to add either water or other non-oil based attractors to your base mix to produce a far more soluble finished bait. Use Egg Albumen and Whey Gel at an inclusion level of 5% each to eliminate the requirement for liquid egg.
